The Addams Family originated from the creation of American cartoonist Charles Addams. A satirical inversion of ideal American family, an unusual wealthy family that are delighted in everything strange and macabre, and never really aware that people find them bizarre or frightening.
In the 1930s, Addams's cartoons in The New Yorker magazine gained popularity. Addams was known for his morbid sense of humor, and over years various bizarre people and creatures who lived in a huge decaying Second Empire house that became popular characters. The mansion is full of unordinary decorations and oddities like mounted swordfish with a man's foot sticking out its mouth, and a polar bear skin rug on the floor in the entrance that roars when unwary visitors step on it.
The Addams family is an extended family. Consists of Gomez, Morticia, Pugsley, Wednesday, Uncle Fester, and Grandmama. The family is attended to by their butler, Lurch (who maybe another family member, but he was never revealed on the show), and their servant, Thing. Various houseguests and neighbors also made appearances in the cartoon and the television series that was based on it. The Addams family TV series ran from September 18, 1964 to April 8, 1966 on ABC network.
